A/N: I’ve taken a few liberties with this fic; it’s set in late S3 but before Baltar’s trial and it’s loosely connected to the Roslin/Zarek scene about declaring martial law during the trial. So, it’s not exactly AU, but neither could it really be called a ‘missing scene’ fic unless you think of it as written with a rather colourful creative license (lol). I’m also not sure what category this fic falls into so I’ve decided to just post it here. It’s a Zarek POV fic, centred around Laura and with a just a hint of AR *shrugs*

Found out this morning that someone broke into my car last night...nicked about $80 in cash, my iPod and few other bits and pieces. Was VERY annoyed. Seriously, for about 20 mins I could have killed someone. I've never had anything stolen from me before, let alone that sort of invasion of privacy. I felt really weird getting into my car afterward thinking about someone rifling through all of my stuff. I mean, I had a bag in the backseat with clothes in it (I was staying at my aunt's place) and they'd so completely trashed my car when they were done that a pair of my undies out of the bag were sitting on the dashboard! (I can laugh about it now, but this morning that was reason to hang someone lol)

To make myself feel better, I went to the dogs and had a punt this afternoon...all tolled, I lost about $20 which wasn't too bad lol

Generally, though, a fairly shit day really. Just felt I had to share it with my flist.

After being pointed toward 'Why I Love Laura Roslin' I had a bit of a think about what I'd read and:

I've often wondered whether Laura's ability to put the fleet's well-being ahead of her own conscience is born more of the knowledge that she won't be around to deal with the moral and ethical fallout, than of a complete selflessness. That's not to say she's not selfless, just wondering if that's a coping mechanism - reminding herself that regardless of what history may have to say about her, she's never going to be forced to defend herself or any of her decisions. And, that that's the fundamental difference between her and Bill's leadership methods. He regrets, and she simply doesn't have time for them.

Looking at Baltar and her 'for all he's done, he's one of us' response to Bill's 'let's kill him', I think she fully expected the trial to find him guilty and that that was why she passed on Bill's offer. Like, 'let's use the system because then we can kill him legally'.

Of course, she's not as easy as that to pin down.

It's 35.4oC...it's raining...and I'm poor til Tuesday. Not just "goodness me, but I wish I could buy those jeans" poor...like "goodness me, pancakes again cause all I can afford atm is flour and sugar and they haven't turned the water off, thank god" poor.

Allow me first to warn you; this is not a happy Laura vid...nor, really, is particularly angsty. It's - well it's supposed to be 'intense' - certainly different. More along the same lines as 'aftermath' (without the char dialogue) and if you didn't enjoy that then you prolly won't like this one either.
